The Lagavulin 8 Years Old Single Malt Whisky 48% vol. 0.7 l + GB pays tribute to the long tradition and distinctive heritage of the Lagavulindistillery, which has been renowned on the south coast of Islay since 1816 for its powerful, peaty whiskies. This whisky was inspired by Alfred Barnard, one of the first whisky travel journalists, who visited Lagavulin in the 19th century and was captivated by an eight-year-old Lagavulin of that time.

Despite its comparatively short maturation period, the Lagavulin 8 Years Old impresses with its exceptional intensity and complexity. The high peat content typical of Islay malts gives it a distinctive smoky note, which is wonderfully balanced by sweet and spicy elements resulting from eight years’ maturation in American oak casks. The higher alcohol content of 48% ABV ensures a full-bodied texture and an intense flavour experience that will delight lovers of smoky whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light gold.

Nose: Intense smoky notes, campfire, a maritime character, hints of citrus, sweet malt and a subtle spiciness.

Palate: Dry, full-bodied, distinctive peaty smoke, ash, black peppercorns, sweet vanilla and a delicate oakiness.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering smoke, dry spice and a subtle sweetness in the background.

The Lagavulin 8 Years Old is a whisky for true Islay enthusiasts and is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water. It pairs superbly with dark chocolate, smoked meat or tangy hard cheeses such as mature Cheddar. Grilled seafood or a hearty BBQ also complement its smoky intensity perfectly.
