Description
Ricard Pastis de Marseille is one of France’s best-known and most traditional aniseed-flavoured spirits. Since its launch in 1932 by Paul Ricard, this pastis has established itself as a popular aperitif, prized for its intense aroma and refreshing herbal notes. Produced in Marseille, Ricard is based on a careful blend of star anise, liquorice extract and aromatic herbs from Provence. At 45% ABV, it possesses a powerful yet harmonious intensity that really comes into its own when mixed with water.
Its characteristic flavour is the result of natural maceration and the use of high-quality botanicals. As soon as water is added, Ricard transforms into a milky-yellow emulsion – a typical feature of high-quality aniseed spirits. Its refreshing and spicy profile makes it the perfect aperitif for hot summer’s days or as an accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes.
Tasting Note
Colour: Golden yellow, with a milky cloudiness when diluted with water.
Nose: Intense aniseed and fennel aromas, complemented by a subtle herbal spiciness and a hint of sweetness.
Palate: Full-bodied and robust with dominant notes of aniseed, rounded off by hints of liquorice and herbs.
Finish: Long-lasting, refreshing and slightly spicy with a gentle sweetness.
Ricard Pastis de Marseille is traditionally enjoyed mixed with cold water in a ratio of 1:5, served over ice. This traditional method brings out the full range of flavours and adds a refreshing touch. Pastis pairs perfectly with Mediterranean starters such as olives, tapenade or seafood. It also reveals its aromatic depth when served with spicy meat dishes or Provençal specialities such as bouillabaisse. Those who fancy experimenting can enjoy Ricard in cocktails such as a Perroquet (with mint syrup) or a Mauresque (with almond syrup). An essential classic for lovers of French aperitifs!
