Sazerac Rye Whisky, named after the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans – the birthplace of the Sazerac cocktail – is produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky. It is aged for six years in newly charred American white oak casks, and the bottle design is inspired by the period before the American Civil War.

The Buffalo Trace Distillery, which has been in operation since 1857 and was named after a historic buffalo trail, was one of six distilleries to be granted a licence to produce alcohol for medicinal purposes during Prohibition, from 1920 to 1933. Today, in addition to Sazerac Rye, the distillery produces other well-known brands such as Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, E.H. Taylor and Pappy van Winkle.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber.

Nose: Notes of spices, cloves, vanilla, aniseed and pepper.

Palate: Hints of sweets, spices and citrus fruits.

Finish: Long-lasting, smooth, with a hint of liquorice.
