La Hechicera Ron Extra Añejo de Colombia SERIE EXPERIMENTAL No. 1 is a limited-edition blended rum from Colombia, with an alcohol content of 43 per cent, presented in a 0.7-litre bottle complete with a gift box. This release marked the launch of La Hechicera’s Experimental Series in 2019 and was created by Bodega Casa Santana, based in northern Colombia. It is based on a carefully crafted blend of various rums, which were initially aged for between 12 and 21 years in American white oak casks. This edition thus combines long-aged stocks with an additional, deliberately experimental ageing step, setting it apart clearly from the classic La Hechicera range.


Following blending, La Hechicera Experimental Series No. 1 underwent a special finish for several months in ex-Moscatel casks. The influence of the aromatic sweet wine adds further fruity and exotic notes to the matured Colombian rum, without overshadowing its long cask maturation. Of particular interest to collectors is the limited production run: a total of just 7,200 bottles were bottled worldwide. The combination of rums aged between 12 and 21 years, a Moscatel cask finish, Colombian origin and strict limited production makes this first Experimental release an intriguing special edition for connoisseurs of aged rums and exceptional wine cask finishes.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber with warm golden highlights.

Nose: Expressive and exotic, with notes of toasted banana and pineapple, accompanied by pecans and matured oak notes.

Palate: Harmonious and full-bodied with tropical fruit, creamy vanilla and butterscotch, complemented by the fruity influences of the Moscatel finish.

Finish: Smooth and pleasantly long-lasting with fruity-sweet and delicately spicy notes.

La Hechicera Serie Experimental No. 1 is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature or over a large ice cube, which allows the influence of the Moscatel casks to be fully appreciated. Culinary pairings include mature cheeses, roasted pecans or lightly caramelised meat, which complement its robust yet fruity character. As a dessert accompaniment, we recommend grilled pineapple, banana desserts, crème brûlée or pastries with vanilla and nuts. The rum can also be used in high-quality Rum Old Fashioned variations or fruit-forward rum cocktails.
