The West Cork Irish Whiskey CALVADOS CASK FINISHED 43% is a characterful single malt Irish whiskey from Ireland, produced by West Cork Distillers in Skibbereen, County Cork. This bottling is made using 100% Irish malted barley, whilst distillation is carried out traditionally in three stages. The whisky spends its initial maturation phase in first-fill bourbon casks before undergoing a special finish in Calvados casks from the French distillery Garnier. This combination blends the classic, smooth style of Irish single malt with a distinctly fruity cask influence, in which apple and pear in particular play a key role.

With an alcohol content of 43 per cent, the West Cork Calvados Cask Finished Single Malt offers a balanced blend of fruit, malt and cask character. The Calvados finishing complements the bourbon cask base with fresh fruit notes and a subtle hint of almond, whilst vanilla and dried fruit add further depth. The whisky is not chill-filtered and is bottled without added colouring, preserving its natural character. The 0.7-litre bottle is part of West Cork’s Cask Finish series, which makes targeted use of different cask types to give each triple-distilled Irish single malt its own distinctive flavour profile.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold to amber.

Nose: Fresh and fruity with apples and white pears, accompanied by a subtle hint of almonds.

Palate: Harmonious and smooth with dried fruit, vanilla and almonds, complemented by subtle notes of malt and oak.

Finish: Medium-length and balanced with fruit, vanilla and a gentle nutty note.

The West Cork Irish Whiskey Calvados Cask Finished is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C or with a few drops of still water. Mature Cheddar, Brie or mild nutty cheeses pair well with the combination of fruit and almonds. When it comes to desserts, apple pie, pear tart, vanilla custard or roasted almonds pair particularly well with the Calvados Cask Finish. As a digestif after a hearty meal, the fruity cask character also offers an interesting alternative to classically matured Irish whiskies.
