The Mars Shinshu Distillery, founded in 1985 in the Nagano Alps, is Japan’s highest-altitude whisky distillery. Situated at an altitude of 798 metres, it benefits from a cool climate and the pure spring water of Mount Komagatake – ideal conditions for whisky production. Following its reopening in 2011, the distillery gained international recognition and is now regarded as a flagship for excellent Japanese whisky.

This Mars Komagatake Single Malt, limited to 9,000 bottles, was released in 2018 specifically for the Japanese market and offers an unrivalled tasting experience. It skilfully blends both peated and unpeated whiskies from the renowned Shinshu distillery. Maturation in bourbon casks and American white oak casks lends this single malt its characteristic depth and a rich, multi-layered aroma that connoisseurs appreciate.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light amber.

Nose: Warm, fruity, floral, toasted bananas, pears, apricots, a hint of liquorice, smoke.

Palate: Citrus fruits, allspice, cinnamon, plums, notes of cashew nuts, vanilla.

Finish: Long-lasting, light peaty smoke, peppermint.
