Bumbu The Original is a rum-based spirit from Barbados with an alcohol content of 40 per cent, available in a 0.7-litre bottle. It is produced by combining rum components from various countries of origin, including Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana and Honduras. Individual components of the blend have been aged for up to 15 years. The rums used are stored in ex-bourbon casks, which lend the composition additional depth and structure. Bumbu The Original is then refined with natural spices. According to the available product information, no artificial colours or flavourings are added.


The inspiration for Bumbu stems from a historical tradition in the West Indies, where rum was enhanced with local spices and other ingredients. Today’s Bumbu Original Spirit Drink takes up this idea in a modern form, combining matured rum components with a distinctive spicy character. Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber with golden highlights.

Nose: Light and smooth with notes of sugar cane, vanilla and ripe banana, accompanied by caramel, cinnamon, toasted nuts and spicy oak.

Palate: Full-bodied and smooth with banana, creamy vanilla and caramel, complemented by toasted nuts, subtle cinnamon and harmonious oak spice.

Finish: Soft, gentle and long-lasting with sweet, spicy notes of vanilla, caramel and wood.

Bumbu The Original is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature or on the rocks, but thanks to its sweet and spicy character, it can just as easily be used in long drinks and cocktails. Culinary pairings include dark chocolate, banana desserts, caramel pastries, roasted nuts or vanilla ice cream, which complement its flavour profile particularly well. For a simple long drink, it can be combined with ginger ale or cola, whilst it also lends a distinctly fruitier and spicier character to a rum Old Fashioned. As a digestif, it is perfect for social evenings, dessert buffets or as a sweet finale to a hearty meal.
