The David Nicholson 1843 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky is a characterful Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky with an alcohol content of 50 per cent, available in a 0.7-litre bottle. The brand’s history dates back to 1843, when the merchant David Nicholson began producing and selling his own whisky in St Louis. Another milestone followed in 1893, when Julian ‘Pappy’ Van Winkle joined Weller and played a part in the brand’s further development. The original recipe was produced at the legendary A. Ph. Stitzel Distillery for the wholesaler Peter Hauptmann. As a wheated bourbon, wheat is used in the mash bill instead of a higher proportion of rye, which gives the whisky its particularly smooth and balanced character. The bottling at 100 proof (50% vol.) lends it additional intensity and expressiveness.
