It is produced at the Lochranza Distillery, which was founded in 1995 and is renowned for its high-quality, unpeated single malts. Launched in 2010, the Arran Amarone Cask Finish is first matured for around eight years in ex-bourbon casks before undergoing a finish of approximately twelve months in Amarone red wine casks from Veneto. Tasting Note

Colour: Warm copper with reddish highlights.

Nose: Fruity, sweet aromas of ripe pears, cherries and honeydew melon, accompanied by delicate notes of honey, toasted almonds, leather, coffee and dark chocolate.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with juicy cherries, ripe plums, honeydew melon and apricots. These are complemented by dark bitter chocolate, creamy caramel, spicy pepper, cinnamon and a subtle hint of sea salt.

Finish: Long-lasting, pleasantly dry and spicy, with elegant oak notes and a harmonious aftertaste.

The Arran Amarone Cask Finish reveals its complex aromas particularly well when enjoyed neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass. A few drops of still water can further highlight the fruity and spicy facets resulting from the Amarone red wine cask maturation. Recommended food pairings include dark chocolate truffles, cherry strudel or a delicate apricot tart, whose fruity and sweet elements harmonise superbly with the whisky. Matured Parmesan, roasted almonds or desserts featuring dark chocolate and cherries also offer interesting combinations.
