Plantation Rum MULTI-ISLAND XO Pineau des Charentes Maturation Edition 2021 is an exceptional multi-origin rum, 41.1 per cent ABV, in a 0.7-litre bottle complete with a gift box. For this special edition, rums from various origins are blended together. The blend comprises distillates from Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad, Panama, Haiti, Saint Lucia, Réunion and Nicaragua, thus uniting various rum traditions in a single composition. Molasses serves as the base, with the individual rum components initially maturing in bourbon casks. This is followed by the further maturation in French oak cognac casks that is characteristic of Plantation, which lends the blend additional depth and cask complexity.


A distinctive feature of the Maturation Edition 2021 is the additional finishing in Pineau des Charentes Blanc casks. Pineau des Charentes is a French speciality made from grape must and Cognac eau-de-vie; the casks previously used for this impart additional fruity and sweet notes to the rum. The combination of numerous countries of origin and the multi-stage maturation in bourbon, cognac and Pineau des Charentes casks makes this Plantation Multi-Island XO a particularly complex blend. At the same time, this edition reflects Plantation Rum’s philosophy of combining different rum styles and regional traditions through careful blending and cask management. The 2021 edition is therefore particularly aimed at connoisseurs of exceptional rum blends and specialised cask finishes.

Tasting Note

Colour: Light amber.

Nose: Fruity and complex, with notes of dried exotic fruits, particularly pineapple, accompanied by subtle smoky undertones.

Palate: Sweet and fruity, with notes of vanilla, candied fruit and hints of exotic fruit, harmoniously complemented by the distinctive cask maturation.

Finish: Long-lasting, rounded and well-balanced with fruity and sweet-spicy accents.

The Plantation Multi-Island XO Pineau des Charentes Maturation Edition 2021 is best enjoyed neat at room temperature or over a large ice cube, allowing the various cask and fruit notes to come to the fore. For savoury dishes, it pairs well with duck breast, glazed pork or mature cheese, whilst pineapple desserts, crème brûlée, candied fruit or dark chocolate make for excellent sweet accompaniments. Thanks to its distinctive Pineau des Charentes finish, this rum is ideal as a digestif, for comparative rum tastings or for special evenings of indulgence.
