The Glengoyne 25 Years Old is an exceptionally long-matured Highland single malt Scotch whisky, which is aged for over a quarter of a century exclusively in carefully selected sherry casks. As such, the 25-year-old expression is a particularly clear example of the Glengoyne Distillery’s sherry-influenced style. The distillery specifically states that the cask type is sherry oak. Glengoyne is also known for its unpeated production and employs a particularly slow distillation process, allowing the character of the long cask maturation to come to the fore. After 25 years of maturation, this premium single malt is bottled at a robust 48% ABV. The long ageing combines intense sherry cask influences with mature oak and a pronounced fruit and spice profile.

Tasting Note

Colour: Bright amber with warm, dark highlights.

Nose: Red fruits, aged leather and brown sugar, complemented by walnuts, raisins and ripe sherry notes.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with soft oak, cinnamon, stewed fruit and Seville orange marmalade, accompanied by strawberries, brown sugar, walnuts and robust oak spice.

Finish: Very long-lasting and increasingly dry, with spicy liquorice, ripe fruit and lingering oak spice.

The Glengoyne 25 Years Old is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C. Glazed ham is a particularly good match, as its toasted honeyed sweetness complements the whisky’s spicy liquorice and stewed fruit notes. Another interesting pairing is rhubarb with praline ice cream, where the interplay of sweetness and acidity echoes the complexity of the 25-year-old expression. A strong blue cheese is also an excellent choice, as its salty and creamy texture particularly brings out the characteristic notes of orange marmalade.
