The Glenkinchie The Distillers Edition Double Matured 2021 43% ABV 0.7 l + GB is an exclusive bottling from the Scottish Lowlands, which are famous for their light, floral single malts. This vintage was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2021, meaning it has undergone a long maturation period. What makes it special is that it has been double-matured in Amontillado casks, which lends the whisky additional depth, spice and subtle sherry notes. It thus combines Glenkinchie’s elegant core character with an expressive complexity.


Following an initial maturation in classic oak casks, it was finished in Amontillado sherry casks, imparting nutty, fruity and dry accents. At 43% ABV, it is smooth, rounded and yet multi-layered. As with all Distillers Edition bottlings, colouring (caramel) has been used here to emphasise the deep golden colour. The 0.7-litre bottle in an elegant gift box makes it a special choice for collectors and connoisseurs of exceptional Lowland whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with reddish-brown highlights.

Nose: Floral and elegant, with malt, honey, dried fruit, almonds and sherry spice.

Palate: Smooth and harmonious, with sweet malt, vanilla, nuts, caramel, raisins and apples, accompanied by spicy Amontillado notes.

Finish: Medium-long to long, smooth, nutty and dry-spicy with a lingering sherry character.

The Glenkinchie Distillers Edition Double Matured 2021 best reveals its delicate balance of floral Lowland notes and sherry spice when enjoyed neat in a nosing glass. It pairs excellently with mild soft cheeses, desserts such as crème brûlée or chocolate fondant, and also harmonises beautifully with roasted nuts. It also makes an elegant accompaniment to dishes such as pan-fried salmon or poultry. For those special moments of indulgence, it is also recommended with a mild to medium-bodied cigar.
