The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Edition No. 1 is the first World Blended Malt Whisky in the Amahagan range and is available at 47 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. This edition comes from the Nagahama Distillery in Japan, which began whisky production in 2016 on the site of the Nagahama Roman Brewery, founded back in 1996. For the Amahagan World Malts, carefully selected malt whiskies from overseas are combined with distillate from Nagahama and then further matured in Japan. As a result, this edition combines international malt whisky components with the distinctive character of the small Japanese distillery, forming the starting point for the innovative Amahagan series.


The Nagahama Distillery also has a number of distinctive features in terms of production techniques. Distillation takes place in exceptionally compact stills, which are known as Arabic pot stills due to their characteristic shape, reminiscent of traditional Arabic stills. Added to this are Japan’s climatic conditions, with marked temperature variations that influence the interaction between the whisky and the cask during maturation. Amahagan Edition No. 1 forgoes any additional wine or special wood finish, thereby placing the focus on the fundamental style of the World Malt series. Fruity, malty and chocolatey notes combine to create a distinctive Japanese-style Amahagan World Malt whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold to amber.

Nose: Mint chocolate and orange, followed by subtle nutty notes and sweet vanilla.

Palate: Fruity and malty with fresh citrus fruits, crisp green apple and a pronounced malty sweetness.

Finish: Medium-length and harmonious with light fruits, citrus notes and a gently lingering malty sweetness.

The Amahagan World Malt Edition No. 1 is particularly enjoyable neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. For savoury dishes, it pairs well with grilled poultry, pork fillet or mild to medium-strength cheeses, as these do not overpower the fruity, malty character. Suitable sweet accompaniments include dark chocolate with orange, apple desserts, nutty biscuits or desserts with vanilla. Thanks to its balanced style, the World Malt is recommended both as a digestif and for whisky tastings and relaxed evenings of enjoyment.
