The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Edition No. 5 SHERRY WOOD Finish is a premium world blended malt whisky, bottled at 47 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. As the fifth edition in the Amahagan series, it combines selected malt whiskies from various countries with new make spirit from the Nagahama Distillery in Japan. This small distillery is situated near Mount Ibuki and Lake Biwa and features exceptionally compact stills. Particularly distinctive are the so-called Aranbic Pot Stills, whose unusual shape is reminiscent of traditional Arabic stills. As there was not yet sufficient quantities of the distillery’s own whisky, matured for a sufficiently long period, available at the time the Amahagan series was developed, the concept arose to combine international malt whiskies with the Nagahama signature.


In the case of Amahagan Edition No. 5, the focus is particularly on the sherry wood finish. After blending, the World Malt undergoes additional cask finishing, which gives the whisky its distinctive combination of dried fruit, dark sweetness and spicy notes. At the same time, the distillate from the Nagahama Distillery contributes a malty foundation to the composition. The Japanese climate, with its marked temperature fluctuations, also influences the maturation process and the interaction between the whisky and the wood. With an ABV of 47%, its distinctive sherry cask finish and its international blending concept, this Amahagan Sherry Wood Whisky is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of fruity and cask-influenced malt whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Rich amber with reddish-golden highlights.

Nose: Ripe oranges, apple compote, muscovado sugar and toffee with a subtle hint of leather.

Palate: Full-bodied with raisins, candied orange peel, honey, orange marmalade and soft caramel.

Finish: Medium-length and pleasantly sweet with toffee, a hint of spice and a subtle trace of dried fruit.

The Amahagan Edition No. 5 Sherry Wood Finish is best enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a few drops of still water. For savoury dishes, it pairs well with roast duck, beef or mature hard cheese, whose stronger flavours harmonise well with the sherry cask character. For sweet accompaniments, dark chocolate, nutty biscuits, orange cake or desserts with caramel and dried fruit are particularly suitable. This makes the World Malt an interesting choice as a digestif, for whisky tastings or a relaxed evening of enjoyment.
