The GlenAllachie 10 Years Old French Virgin Oak Finish is a characterful Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from the GlenAllachie Distillery’s Virgin Oak Series. This bottling comes from Batch 2 and was initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before spending around 18 months finishing in French oak hogsheads. Quercus Robur from the Haute-Garonne region of France was used. The fine-pored oak was air-dried for 15 months prior to barrel-making, allowing its influence to develop in a controlled manner during the additional maturation.

The combination of classic bourbon cask maturation and the French virgin oak finish lends this ten-year-old single malt additional structure and the characteristic influence of fresh French oak. The GlenAllachie 10 Years Old is bottled at a robust 48% ABV, with the distillery consistently refraining from the use of colouring and chill filtration. As a result, the whisky is presented in its natural colour and is non-chill filtered. The 0.7-litre bottle with a gift box also makes this special GlenAllachie bottling an interesting choice for collectors and connoisseurs of exceptional cask-matured whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden bronze with warm highlights.

Nose: Orange peel, heather honey and delicate spices, followed by caramel, orchard fruits and mocha.

Palate: Heather honey, mocha and brittle toffee blend with grapefruit, cinnamon and earthy tannins.

Finish: Long-lasting and spicy with ginger, delicate oak tannins and warming spicy notes.

The GlenAllachie 10 Years French Virgin Oak Finish is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can help to open up the full-bodied strength of the bottling. It pairs very well with roast or braised beef, game dishes and mature hard cheeses. Desserts featuring caramel, roasted nuts or dark chocolate also complement the character of the cask maturation perfectly.
