Description
Pfanner Enzian is a spirit steeped in tradition and full of character, distinguished by its intense, earthy aromas and a distinctive bitter note. Produced by the renowned Pfanner & Gutmann Getränke GmbH, a company with over 160 years’ experience in the art of distillation, this gentian schnapps combines traditional craftsmanship with the highest quality. The Pfanner family is now in its fifth generation of continuing this distilling tradition, relying on tried-and-tested recipes and state-of-the-art production standards.
For this fine gentian schnapps, the roots of the yellow gentian are carefully harvested by hand in the high mountains of the French Jura to ensure the very highest quality. After harvesting, the roots are cleaned, finely ground and then subjected to a gentle distillation process. This gentle processing preserves the gentian’s distinctive aroma, allowing it to unfold into a deep, spicy flavour. The natural bitter compounds in the gentian root provide the characteristic, robust note that makes this schnapps a true speciality.
With its perfect balance of tradition, craftsmanship and intense flavours, Pfanner Enzian is a real highlight for lovers of full-bodied spirits. This distillate embodies the centuries-old Alpine art of distilling and offers an authentic taste experience with an unmistakable character.
Tasting Note
Colour: Clear with slight golden highlights.
Nose: Earthy, spicy notes with hints of herbs and roots.
Palate: Intense and aromatic with a pronounced bitter note, balanced by a subtle sweetness.
Finish: Long-lasting, robust and pleasantly tart with a slightly warming aftertaste.
Pfanner Gentian is ideal as a traditional digestif after a hearty meal, as its natural bitter compounds can aid digestion. It pairs particularly well with savoury Alpine dishes such as Tyrolean bacon, mountain cheese or game specialities. Gentian is also increasingly appreciated in modern bar culture – whether served neat, slightly chilled or as a sophisticated ingredient in dry cocktails that highlight its unique character.
