The Loch Lomond 46 Years Old Remarkable Stills Series Release No. 2 is an exceptionally old and strictly limited-edition Highland single malt Scotch whisky that showcases Loch Lomond’s distinctive distilling technique. The Remarkable Stills Series comprises some of the distillery’s oldest and rarest distillates and pays tribute to its exceptional stills, which allow for precise control over different distillation characteristics. This 46-year-old Loch Lomond whisky first spent an impressive 44 years in American oak casks. This was followed by a further two years’ maturation in a combination of first-fill Oloroso sherry casks and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, before the single malt was bottled at 45.3% ABV.


The Loch Lomond Distillery is situated not far from the Scottish loch of the same name and is particularly renowned for its versatile stills and the resulting variety of spirit styles. Release No. 2 demonstrates the potential these distillates can develop after more than four decades of cask maturation. The limited edition is particularly exclusive: there are only 200 individually numbered bottles of the Loch Lomond 46 Years Old in existence worldwide. The combination of an extremely long maturation period, American oak and a two-year Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry finish makes this bottling a rare collector’s item within the Remarkable Stills Series. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented, as befits its status, in a high-quality wooden box.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber with warm mahogany highlights.

Nose: Toffee and caramelised sugar, accompanied by rose, ripe peach, mango and sweet vanilla syrup.

Palate: Complex, rich and multi-layered, with ripe pear, fresh orange zest and melted brown sugar, complemented by cinnamon, cloves, raisins and sultanas.

Finish: Exceptionally long-lasting and elegant, with ripe fruit, warming spice, dark sweetness and finely integrated old oak.

Due to its advanced age and rarity, the Loch Lomond 46 Years Old Remarkable Stills Series Release No. 2 is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C in a high-quality nosing glass. It is best to avoid serving this bottling on the rocks, whilst a few drops of still water may be added according to personal preference. Suitable accompaniments include mature hard cheeses, walnuts, high-quality dark chocolate or desserts featuring pear, orange and dried fruit.
