The Loch Lomond The Open 150th St Andrews Special Edition 2022 is a limited-edition Highland single malt Scotch whisky, created to mark the 150th edition of The Open in St Andrews, the historic home of golf. This special edition was produced as part of Loch Lomond Whiskies’ partnership with The Open and was developed by Master Blender Michael Henry in collaboration with golf legend and brand ambassador Colin Montgomerie. American oak casks were initially used for the maturation. Selected casks were then chosen for an additional finish in Bordeaux red wine barriques, or claret casks, adding an extra fruity and spicy dimension to the characteristic Loch Lomond style.


The Loch Lomond Distillery is renowned for its exceptional distillation equipment, which enables it to produce a variety of distillate characters for its single malts. The Open Special Edition 2022 focuses not only on the unique combination of casks but, above all, on the connection between Scottish whisky and golfing traditions. The single malt is bottled at 46% ABV and is expressly non-chill-filtered, ensuring that its original character is largely preserved. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a specially designed gift box bearing Colin Montgomerie’s signature. This makes the St Andrews 150th Anniversary Edition of interest to both whisky enthusiasts and collectors of The Open and golf special editions.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Fresh and fruity, with peach, pear and red apples, accompanied by delicate floral notes of rose.

Palate: Lively and well-balanced, with strawberry, peach and a fresh lime note, followed by creamy fudge and a delicate pastry-like sweetness.

Finish: Long-lasting and spicy, with lingering oak and a gentle smokiness.

The Loch Lomond The Open 150th St Andrews Special Edition 2022 is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C, with a few drops of water or over a large ice cube. In terms of food pairings, its fruity, creamy character complements mild mature cheeses, roasted almonds, strawberry or peach desserts, and pastries with butter and caramel. The Bordeaux finish also provides an interesting contrast to dark chocolate with subtle fruity notes.
