Catoctin Creek Rye Whisky Distillers Edition is a specially selected bottling of the well-known Roundstone Rye from the Catoctin Creek Distilling Company in Virginia, USA. The variant, known as the Distiller’s Edition, is personally curated under the supervision of Master Distiller and Company President Becky Harris. What sets it apart is the rigorous cask selection: according to the distillery, only one in ten casks qualifies for this version, which is bottled at 92 proof or 46 per cent. To this end, particularly interesting casks are selected from the Lager stock, whose character is suited to the higher alcohol strength. The focus is on a more intense expression and greater aromatic depth, without losing the smoothness that Roundstone Rye is known for.


Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is one of America’s craft distilleries and, thanks to its comparatively small-scale production structure, is able to specifically select individual casks for special bottlings. The Distillers Edition was created following several years of planning and the deliberate ageing of suitable whisky casks. Becky Harris and co-founder Scott Harris developed the bottling in response to interest from whisky bars, customers and distribution partners in a stronger variant of Roundstone Rye. At 46 per cent ABV in the 0.7-litre bottle, this American rye whisky from Virginia is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of characterful rye bottlings, where cask selection, a spicy rye profile and a higher ABV take centre stage.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber.

Nose: Spicy and expressive with typical rye notes, a subtle sweetness, vanilla and delicate hints of oak.

Palate: Full-bodied yet smooth, with spicy rye, sweet accents, vanilla and harmonious oak notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming, with spicy rye notes and a pleasant lingering oak finish.

The Catoctin Creek Rye Whisky Distillers Edition is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of still water can help to further open up the full-bodied 46% ABV expression. It also provides a characterful base for classic rye whisky cocktails such as the Manhattan, Old Fashioned or Sazerac Rye. Culinary pairings include smoked meats, strong hard cheeses, roasted nuts or dark chocolate, which complement its spicy profile well. Thanks to the selective cask selection, it is also recommended for comparative tastings with the regular Roundstone Rye bottling.
