Benriach THE THIRTY Single Malt Four Cask Matured is an exceptionally long-matured Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, composed exclusively of peated distillate and matured for at least 30 years. For this prestigious bottling, the Benriach Distillery employs a complex four-cask maturation process, blending four different cask types: sherry casks, bourbon barrels, virgin oak casks and port casks from the Douro Valley. During the decades of maturation, the characteristic sweet Speyside smoke becomes increasingly mellow and blends with notes of fruit, malt and oak. Each of the four cask types contributes its own individual characteristics to the overall profile before the matured whiskies are blended together.


Master Blender Rachel Barrie is responsible for the composition; she describes THE THIRTY as a particularly intense yet refined interpretation of the Benriach style. After at least three decades, the four-stage cask maturation produces a multi-layered single malt in which the smokiness is fully integrated into the long maturation and the different cask characteristics. The Benriach 30 Years Old THE THIRTY is bottled at 46% ABV and boasts a natural colour derived exclusively from cask maturation. The combination of 30 years’ maturation, peated distillate, and sherry, bourbon, virgin oak and port casks makes this bottling one of the Speyside distillery’s finest and most complex expressions. The 0.7-litre single malt is presented in a matching gift box.

Tasting Note

Colour: Mahogany.

Nose: Stewed plums and baked orange combine with smoked walnuts and a spicy interplay of cinnamon and cocoa.

Palate: Dark fruits, Manuka honey and chocolate-coated raisins meet multi-layered cask character and complex, harmoniously integrated smoke.

Finish: Long-lasting and complex, with intense smoky honey and deep, matured notes of fruit and oak.

Due to its long ageing and complex Four Cask Maturation, Benriach THE THIRTY is best enjoyed neat at room temperature. A few drops of still water can help to reveal further facets of fruit, wood and smoke. Dark chocolate, walnuts, mature hard cheese or desserts featuring plums and dark fruits make for subtle accompaniments. This 30-year-old Benriach is particularly well-suited to discerning whisky tastings, special anniversaries or as a high-quality gift for lovers of long-matured and smoky Speyside single malts.
