Matthew Gloag, the founder’s grandson of the same name, took over the family business 96 years after it was founded in 1800. A year later, he created a new blend, which he named ‘The Grouse Brand’ (Grouse = moorhen), anticipating that many hunters would stop off in Perth during the hunting season. His daughter designed the accompanying label featuring Scotland’s national bird. The whisky sold so well straight away that, within just a few years, the name ‘The Famous’ was added and the word ‘Brand’ was simply dropped. And so the popular whisky is still known today as The Famous Grouse.

This Famous Grouse is crafted from a selection of Speyside malts and grains. Both the maturation and the finish take place in sherry casks.

The label features the Spanish female capercaillie.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Fruity, with notes of herbs, chocolate and spices.

Palate: Complex, smooth, delicate, with hints of sherry, chocolate and fruit.

Finish: Long-lasting.
