The Kavalan SOLIST Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky is a particularly intense single cask bottling from Taiwan, which highlights the influence of high-quality Oloroso sherry casks. The Kavalan Whisky is produced by the Kavalan Distillery in Yilan, where the subtropical climate promotes a particularly intense interaction between the distillate and the oak cask. For the SOLIST range, selected individual casks are bottled separately, ensuring that each edition retains its own unique cask characteristics. The whisky matures in an Oloroso sherry cask, which lends it its powerful, fruit-driven character, characterised by dark flavours. This bottling does not carry a classic age statement.#

With an alcohol content of 54.8%, this Kavalan SOLIST Oloroso Sherry Cask is bottled at a high strength and is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of intense sherry cask whiskies. The SOLIST range comprises individual cask bottlings, in which the cask number, bottle number and respective bottling strength can play an important role. Kavalan combines modern whisky production with the unique climatic conditions of north-eastern Taiwan, resulting in a cask maturation process that differs significantly from that in cooler whisky-producing regions. The combination of single cask, Oloroso sherry cask and 54.8% makes this 0.7-litre bottling a distinctive example of Taiwanese single malts. The whisky is presented in a high-quality gift box.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark mahogany with deep reddish-golden highlights.

Nose: Intense notes of dried fruit, raisins and ripe plums, accompanied by nuts, vanilla, dark chocolate and spicy oak.

Palate: Powerful, full-bodied and complex, with raisins, dates and dark fruits, complemented by nuts, cocoa, caramel and pronounced sherry spice.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming, with dried fruit, dark chocolate, nuts and robust oak spice.

The Kavalan SOLIST Oloroso Sherry Cask is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C. Due to its high alcohol content of 54.8%, a few drops of still water can be added to bring out further notes of fruit, nuts and sherry cask. It pairs well with dark chocolate, walnuts, dates, figs or strongly matured hard cheese. This bottling is particularly interesting for comparative tastings with other Kavalan SOLIST Single Casks, as the individual influences of different casks become particularly evident.
