The Tomatin 15 Years Old Portuguese Collection Port Casks 2006 is a limited-edition Highland single malt Scotch whisky and forms the first instalment of the three-part Tomatin Portuguese Collection. The whisky was distilled on 8 September 2006 at the Tomatin Distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The distillate was initially matured for more than eight years in traditional Scotch whisky oak casks before being transferred to selected tawny port casks on 23 April 2015 for further maturation. The single malt spent a further seven years there, and this extended secondary maturation gave it a distinctive blend of cask character and dark fruitiness.


The Portuguese Collection comprises three whiskies distilled together in 2006, which, following their initial maturation phase, were matured separately in Tawny Port, Moscatel de Setúbal and Madeira wine casks. This Port Edition was bottled on 9 May 2022 at 46 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box, after a total of 15 years’ maturation, before the collection was released on 17 October 2022. The approximately seven-year Tawny Port cask finish gives this edition a clearly defined character within the series. The Tomatin 15 Years Port Casks 2006 thus combines a specific vintage designation, long cask maturation and the extraordinary concept of the three-part Portuguese Collection.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark gold to amber with reddish highlights.

Nose: Lush and fruity with notes of Black Forest gateau and warm spices, followed by fresh summer fruits.

Palate: Deep and full-bodied with wild berries, blackberries, raspberries and cherries, accompanied by spicy and sweet oak notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and fruity with sweet notes of peach and apricot, as well as a gentle, lingering hint of cask spice.

The Tomatin 15 Years Portuguese Collection Port Casks is best enjoyed neat at room temperature to really bring out the influence of the seven-year maturation in tawny port casks. A few drops of still water, at 46% ABV, can reveal further fruity and spicy facets. Culinary pairings include mature cheeses, duck dishes or game, as well as dark chocolate and desserts featuring cherries, raspberries or wild berries. This bottling is also particularly interesting for a joint tasting with the Moscatel and Madeira editions of the Tomatin Portuguese Collection, allowing you to directly compare the influence of the three Portuguese cask types.
