Description

Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin is the original gin from the Australian Four Pillars Distillery and remains a key part of its range to this day. It was developed as a modern Australian gin that combines classic gin profiles with Asian-inspired botanicals and Mediterranean citrus freshness. The foundation is the clear water of the Yarra Valley in Victoria, complemented by nine selected botanicals and whole fresh oranges. The oranges, in particular, provide an intense, natural citrus note, whilst lemon myrtle adds a typically Australian touch. Spicy botanicals such as cardamom complement the fresh profile and lend the gin additional structure. The result is a distinctive interpretation of a classic dry gin with a distinctly Australian character.

To produce the gin, the botanicals are distilled together in the German-made copper pot still ‘Wilma’. The combination of whole oranges, lemon myrtle, Asian botanicals and classic gin spices creates a balanced style in which citrus freshness and spice are equally prominent. Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin is bottled at 41.8% in a 0.7-litre bottle. The distillery is based in Healesville in the Yarra Valley and is one of the best-known representatives of the modern Australian gin scene internationally.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Fresh and aromatic with juniper, ripe orange and lively citrus notes, accompanied by subtle spices and lemon myrtle.

Palate: Harmonious and full-bodied with juniper, juicy orange and Australian lemon myrtle, complemented by spicy botanicals, particularly cardamom.

Finish: Long-lasting and balanced, with fresh citrus, juniper and a pleasantly warming spicy note.

Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin was developed specifically for a classic gin and tonic. We recommend pairing it with a high-quality, fairly neutral tonic water, as well as a fresh slice of orange or orange zest, which enhances the citrus freshness already present in the gin. It is also excellent for classic gin cocktails such as a Dry Martini, Tom Collins or Gin Fizz. Food pairings include seafood, grilled fish, Mediterranean starters or lightly spiced Asian dishes, which harmonise well with the combination of citrus and spices.
