The Plantation Black Cask Barbados & Cuba 2022 is a limited edition from the annual Black Cask range, in which Plantation combines different rum origins and distillation styles. For the 2022 edition, selected rums from Barbados and Cuba have been blended to create a complex blend. Distillates from pot stills and column stills are combined, bringing together bolder, aromatic components with lighter rum styles. The individual rums were initially matured in their respective countries of origin in ex-bourbon casks before being sent to France for further refinement. There, they underwent the second maturation phase – characteristic of Plantation Rum – in Cognac Ferrand casks.


This combination of Caribbean maturation and continental secondary maturation forms the basis for the full-bodied character of Plantation Black Cask 2022. In particular, the combination of the two countries of origin, Barbados and Cuba, gives this limited vintage edition its own distinct identity within the Black Cask series. The cask maturation in ex-bourbon and subsequently ex-Cognac Ferrand casks adds extra depth and blends fruit, spices and oak. With an alcohol content of 40 per cent and a bottle size of 0.7 litres, the Plantation Black Cask Barbados & Cuba 2022 offers an interesting opportunity to discover the different rum traditions of two Caribbean countries of origin within a single bottling.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose: Honey and green apple, accompanied by coconut, banana and citrus fruits, as well as subtle notes of coffee and almonds.

Palate: Full-bodied, spicy and pleasantly sweet, with hints of fresh pastries, apricots and milk chocolate, complemented by nutmeg, vanilla and spicy oak.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious, with lingering fruit, vanilla, subtle spices and soft woody notes.

Plantation Black Cask Barbados & Cuba 2022 can be enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C or on the rocks, and is equally well suited to premium rum long drinks. Culinary pairings include roasted almonds, banana desserts, apricot tart or milk and dark chocolate, which complement its fruity and spicy profile. In cocktails, it is ideal for a Rum Old Fashioned or a robust Rum Sour, for example. The combination of bourbon and cognac cask maturation also comes into its own as a digestif following a dessert featuring vanilla, coconut or caramelised fruit.
