The Benriach 27 Years Old Smoky Cask Edition Oloroso Sherry Vintage 1994 is a strictly limited-edition single cask bottling from Speyside, which combines the smoky character of the Benriach Distillery with a long maturation in an Oloroso sherry puncheon. The whisky was distilled on 18 July 1994 and bottled in 2021 after 27 years of maturation. Master Blender Rachel Barrie is responsible for the cask selection; at Benriach, she has access to a variety of whisky styles, including peated, unpeated and triple-distilled spirits. For this Smoky Cask Edition, however, the focus is particularly on the peated character. The whisky underwent its long maturation in Oloroso sherry puncheon number 2059, a large-format cask with a capacity of approximately 450 to 500 litres.


With just 659 bottles bottled worldwide, the Benriach 27 Years Old Vintage 1994 Cask #2059 is one of the distillery’s most rare bottlings. The intense influence of the Oloroso sherry cask combines with the smoky Speyside style and an exceptionally long maturation period of more than a quarter of a century. This 27-year-old single malt Scotch whisky was bottled at a robust 53 per cent cask strength, thereby largely preserving its original cask character. Furthermore, the whisky was not chill-filtered. The combination of the 1994 vintage, Oloroso sherry puncheon, cask strength, cask number 2059 and a limited run of 659 bottles makes this Benriach Cask Edition particularly appealing to collectors and connoisseurs of long-matured, smoky Speyside single malts. Tasting Note

Colour: Copper.

Nose: Toasted oranges, smoked pine nuts, orange wine, caramel, maple syrup, dark chocolate.

Palate: Rich, spicy, chocolate lime, candied pears, smoked walnut bread, liquorice, redcurrants.

Finish: Long-lasting, honey, dark chocolate.

The Benriach 27 Years Old Smoky Cask Edition is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, allowing it sufficient time to breathe in the glass. At 53% cask strength, a few drops of still water can help to bring out further fruity, smoky and sherry notes. Dark chocolate, roasted walnuts, mature hard cheese or desserts featuring dark berries make for subtle accompaniments, though this complex whisky is also excellent on its own. Given that it is limited to just 659 bottles and aged for 27 years, this bottling is particularly well-suited to exclusive whisky tastings, collections and special moments of indulgence.
