On the wild and romantic coast of the Isle of Skye, south of Dunvegan, lies the picturesque, snow-white Talisker distillery, which was founded in 1831 by two brothers. Following their deaths, numerous successors attempted to run the distillery successfully, but all failed. It was only a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant who succeeded in taking it over. Following a devastating fire in 1960, the distillery was faithfully rebuilt.

This whisky, which forms part of Diageo’s 2022 Special Release series, is presented under the theme ‘Elusive Expressions’, which encompasses rare bottlings brought to life through works of art and stories centred on mythical creatures. Each bottling is bottled at individual cask strength, with no chill filtration or added colouring used to preserve its purity.

The Talisker whisky in this series is 11 years old and is matured in first-fill and refill bourbon casks as well as in wine-seasoned casks, which gives it its distinctive character.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold with reddish amber highlights.

Nose: Delicate sherry sweetness with aromas of dried figs, raisins, honey, vanilla, toasted nuts and elegant oaky spice.

Palate: Full-bodied and silky, with notes of dark chocolate, toffee, ripe plums, orange peel, gentle spices and a hint of espresso.

Finish: Long-lasting, smooth and warming, with lingering notes of dried fruit, walnuts, spices and a subtle hint of oak.

The Gordon & MacPhail Linkwood 25 Years Old is a first-class whisky, perfect for enjoying neat. A few drops of water will help to open up its flavours even further. Thanks to its rich sherry notes, it pairs superbly with dark chocolate, roasted almonds or mature cheese. It also reveals its luxurious depth particularly impressively when paired with game dishes, caramelised desserts or nut cakes.
