Cristóbal Niña is a premium spiced rum, created in honour of Christopher Columbus and his ship, the Niña. The name ‘Niña’ pays homage to one of the three ships on which Columbus sailed to the Americas on his first expedition in 1492. The rum is distilled in the Dominican Republic by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, the country’s largest spirits producer. The use of the company’s own sugar cane and the tropical ageing conditions result in a rum that reflects the authentic character and tradition of the Dominican Republic.
This spiced rum is aged for between 8 and 12 years in ex-bourbon casks, developing a complex depth and richness as a result. Ageing under tropical conditions gives the rum its rich flavour, which harmonises with spices and the characteristic sweetness of a mature rum.
Cristóbal Niña pays tribute to the historic adventure of Columbus and his ship, which symbolises the discovery of new worlds. Although the fate of the Niña after Columbus’s expedition remains unknown, its legacy lives on in this exceptional rum.
Tasting Note
Colour: Deep amber with golden highlights.
Nose: Aromatic spices, cinnamon and vanilla, accompanied by a subtle hint of caramel and a touch of dried fruit.
Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with intense flavours of warm spices, caramelised sugar, a hint of honey and a gentle bourbon note.
Finish: Long and smooth, with a sweet spiciness and a slightly woody aftertaste.
Cristóbal Niña is excellent neat, on the rocks or in cocktails. It is ideal for a classic rum and coke or a Mai Tai, but its spicy character also comes into its own in a rum Old Fashioned. When combined with tonic or ginger beer, it develops an interesting freshness that pairs well with BBQ or grilled meat.
