Ron Sostenible 8 Years Old Triple Cask Rum combines an elaborate three-stage cask maturation process with a production concept consistently focused on sustainability. This premium rum is produced in the Dominican Republic using fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses. It is matured entirely under tropical conditions, beginning with at least eight years in ex-American bourbon casks. The rum is then finished for a further five months in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. This triple-cask maturation combines the influence of American oak with two different types of sherry cask, lending the long-aged spirit additional depth and complexity.


Even beyond barrel ageing, Ron Sostenible takes a unique approach. The rum is produced in a distillery that places a strong emphasis on sustainable production methods and is subsequently transported by sailing ship without the use of engines. Furthermore, the bottles used for bottling are made from 96 per cent recycled glass. With an alcohol content of 43 per cent, Ron Sostenible 8 Years has sufficient body to clearly showcase the influences of bourbon, Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks. This Dominican triple-cask rum, made from sugar cane juice, thus combines at least eight years of tropical ageing with an unusual transport and packaging concept.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber with warm coppery highlights.

Nose: Dried fruit, vanilla and toffee, accompanied by a pleasant sweetness and subtle oak notes.

Palate: Smooth, full-bodied and complex, with figs, dates and raisins, complemented by caramel, dark chocolate, toffee, vanilla, orange peel and spicy oak.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious, with dried fruit, vanilla, dark sweetness and lingering oak spice.

The Ron Sostenible 8 Years Old Triple Cask is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C, as a touch of warmth really brings out the pronounced dried fruit and sherry cask notes. Alternatively, it can be served over a large ice cube as a quiet evening drink. It pairs well with dark chocolate, dates, figs, roasted walnuts or desserts featuring caramel and orange. Due to its complex triple-cask maturation, this bottling is clearly intended for pure enjoyment rather than as a base for cocktails.
