The Polz Zweigelt Styria 2018 is a finely structured, classic red wine from a top vineyard in southern Styria, which impressively demonstrates just how elegantly and with what character the Zweigelt grape variety can be vinified, even in a cooler climate such as Styria. The Polz Winery, one of the region’s most renowned family-run estates, has bottled a Zweigelt with this vintage that impresses with its finesse, fruitiness and authenticity. The vines grow on mineral-rich, calcareous soils on airy slopes – perfect conditions for imparting the wine with distinct freshness and a lively structure.

The 2018 vintage is characterised by optimal ripening conditions, which are reflected in the wine’s clear, variety-typical aromas. Following a selective hand harvest, the Zweigelt is gently vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks to preserve the pure fruit. With a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol., it is particularly easy to drink, well-balanced and approachable. This Zweigelt is a prime example of Austrian red wine with style and a sense of terroir – elegant, unpretentious and utterly versatile.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Polz Zweigelt 2018 displays a clear ruby red colour with slight violet highlights. On the nose, a delicate interplay of aromas unfolds, featuring juicy morello cherries, fresh red berries and a subtle spicy note. On the palate, the wine is supple, with ripe cherry fruit, a gentle tannin structure and well-integrated, lively acidity. The finish is delicately fruity, clean and of medium length.

This Zweigelt pairs superbly with a wide variety of dishes: from classic Styrian ‘Brettljause’ platters and roast poultry to grilled vegetables or pasta dishes with mushrooms.
