The Ardbeg Smoketrails The Ultimate Manzanilla Edition is a limited bottling that combines the classic peat smokiness of Ardbeg with the salty, dry notes of Manzanilla sherry casks. With an alcohol content of 46% vol. and a unique cask maturation, this single malt combines the maritime character of Islay with the fine, nutty and slightly floral flavours of the famous Spanish sherry.
Ardbeg stands for centuries of tradition: whisky has been distilled here unofficially since 1794, before the distillery was officially founded by John McDougall in 1815. The name "Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic for "little hill", which refers to the distillery's geographical location on the south coast of Islay - a region known for its heavily peated, maritime-influenced whiskies.
Maturation in Manzanilla sherry casks gives this Ardbeg an exceptional elegance and a fine balance between smoke, sea salt and nutty sweetness. An exciting combination that sets it apart from other bottlings and offers a special flavour experience.
Tasting Note
Colour: Light gold with a light amber hue.
Nose: Strong peat smoke meets salty sea breeze, roasted almonds and a subtle sherry sweetness, subtle notes of green apple and lemon peel complete the bouquet.
Flavour: Full-bodied and complex with an intense smokiness, accompanied by dry nuttiness, herbs and a fine saltiness, delicate vanilla and malt notes round off the profile.
Finish: Langs and dry with lingering smoke, sea salt and a slight bitterness from oak.
The Ardbeg Smoketrails The Ultimate Manzanilla Edition should be enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to emphasise its fine balance of smoke and salty elegance. It harmonises perfectly with seafood, smoked fish, Iberian ham or mature hard cheese.
