Rum Nation Rare Rums Savanna 2006/2022 is a sophisticated, limited-edition bottling from the Small Batch Rare Rums Collection by the independent bottler Rum Nation. The rum originates from the renowned Savanna Distillery on La Réunion and was distilled in 2006, before being bottled in 2022 following a total of 16 years’ maturation. Its long maturation period took place under varying climatic conditions: Initially, the rum was stored for several years in Cognac casks in the tropical climate of La Réunion. This was followed by a period of continental finishing in Oloroso sherry casks, which imparted additional depth and a distinctive cask character to the spirit.


With a robust 57.7% alcohol content, the Savanna 2006/2022 Sherry Cask Finish stands out as a particularly intense entry in the Rare Rums series. In addition to its long maturation period, its comparatively pronounced ester character is particularly noteworthy, blending with the influences of the Cognac and Oloroso sherry casks. With the Small Batch Rare Rums Collection, Rum Nation focuses on selected, characterful distillates from renowned rum-producing regions, which are available only in limited quantities. Tasting Note

Colour: Dark amber with deep mahogany highlights.

Nose: Intense and ester-driven, with bergamot and orange peel, accompanied by cola, chinotto and spicy cloves.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with subtly bitter coffee, cocoa and brown sugar, complemented by dried fruit and robust spicy notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, dark and intense, with pronounced woody notes and a robust, dry spiciness.

Rum Nation Savanna 2006/2022 rum is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C; however, given its high alcohol content of 57.7%, a few drops of still water can reveal additional facets. It pairs well with dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, roasted nuts, candied orange peel or desserts featuring coffee and cocoa. Matured hard cheese can also provide an interesting contrast to its ester-rich and spicy profile.
