Description
Absente Absinthe 55% ABV, 0.1 l, in a gift box online kaufen
Absente, a distinctive herbal spirit from Provence in France, is characterised by its high aniseed content, which means it is classified as a pastis in some countries. This classification allows it to be sold in regions where traditional absinthe is banned due to its thujone content – an essential oil found in wormwood which is toxic in high doses.
However, Absente Absinthe contains only a very small amount of wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), which distinguishes it from classic absinthe, whose name is derived from the Latin word for wormwood, ‘absinthium’. Historically, the tradition of absinthe dates back to the 18th century and reached its heyday in the 1920s, particularly amongst the Parisian artistic community, where diluting it with water became a popular way of drinking it.
Tasting Note
Colour: Clear.
Nose: Menthol, peppermint.
Taste: Sweet, star anise, sugar.
Finish: Long-lasting.
The ritual of enjoying Absente involves:
- Placing a sugar cube on the special spoon over the rim of the glass.
- Pouring water over the sugar to give the liqueur its characteristic opal-green colour (crushed ice may be added beforehand, if desired).
For those who prefer intense flavour experiences, enjoying Absente neat is an option. Mint complements the drink perfectly.
