The 1423 S.B.S Fiji 2004 Single Barrel Selection is a strictly limited single-cask bottling from the Single Barrel Selection range by 1423 World Class Spirits. This Fiji rum is made from molasses distilled in a pot still in 2004. The rum was then matured in an ex-bourbon cask before being bottled directly from the single cask in August 2022. As a genuine single cask rum, this bottling reflects the unique character of a single cask and combines the intense pot-still style with extended cask maturation.

Particularly striking is the bottling at an unadulterated cask strength of 68.3% ABV. The S.B.S Fiji 2004 has not been chill-filtered and contains absolutely no additives. Only 210 bottles were bottled from the cask, making this vintage rum an exceptionally rare release within the S.B.S range. The combination of the 2004 vintage, pot-still distillation, ex-bourbon casks, high cask strength and extremely limited bottling run makes this 0.7-litre bottle, presented in a gift box, particularly appealing to collectors and connoisseurs of characterful single cask rums.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep amber with golden to coppery highlights.

Nose: Sweet and floral notes, walnuts and cream, accompanied by vanilla and subtle hints of leather.

Palate: Intense and powerful with roasted coffee beans, coconut and burnt caramel, complemented by a distinctive menthol note.

Finish: Long-lasting, robust and warming with roasted notes, caramel, oaky spice and a fresh hint of menthol.

Due to its 68.3% cask strength, the S.B.S Fiji 2004 is best enjoyed neat and in small quantities at around 18 to 20 °C. A few drops of still water or gradual dilution can reduce the alcoholic intensity and reveal further facets of this single cask rum. Dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, roasted nuts or a strong espresso make for subtle accompaniments. This rare bottling, limited to just 210 bottles, is not really intended for mixed drinks; rather, it is best suited to thoughtful tastings and special rum-tasting sessions.
