Kabumm Premium Whisky is an Austrian single grain whisky, created as a joint project between the Berlin rapper Sido, his business partner Burkhard Westerhoff and the Austrian master distiller Josef Farthofer. It is produced according to the ‘from field to bottle’ principle using rare ancient grains, which are grown, tended and harvested on the Farthofer family’s own farm, covering around 45 hectares. The grain is finely ground using a hammer mill, mashed with water and distilled after saccharification. All key stages of production – from grain cultivation through mashing and distillation to cask maturation and bottling – are carried out with a particular focus on artisanal craftsmanship and ensuring that as much of the regional value chain as possible remains within the local area.

The Kabumm Single Grain Whisky derives its characteristic style from maturing for at least three years in used Mostello barrique casks with medium toasting. Mostello is a port-inspired pear dessert wine blend, whose pre-used casks impart notes of dried fruit, wood and fruit to the whisky in particular. After maturation, the distillate is diluted to 40 per cent alcohol content using primeval rock water from the company’s own spring in the Mühlviertel region. Another unique selling point is the hand-blown, 0.7-litre, bulbous-shaped bottle with gold embossing, which is handcrafted in a traditional Central European glassworks. This gives each bottle its own unique character. The Kabumm Premium Whisky is available in a gift box and combines Austrian distilling craftsmanship, unusual cask maturation and a striking bottle design.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear, bright gold.

Nose: Multi-faceted with dried fruit, cloves and star anise, accompanied by subtle cereal notes and a hint of woody spice.

Palate: Full-bodied, smooth and pleasantly warming, with pronounced fruit, subtle cereal notes and delicate hints of chocolate.

Finish: Long-lasting and slightly tart, with distinctive dried pear, subtle spice and harmoniously integrated oak notes.

The Kabumm Premium Whisky best reveals its full range of flavours when enjoyed neat at a serving temperature of around 18 to 20 °C. It pairs particularly well with mature hard cheeses, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and desserts featuring pear or dried fruit, which complement the influences of the Mostello casks. A few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and cereal notes during tasting.
