Description
Fernet-Branca is the world’s largest and best-known bitter, produced since 1845 at the Fratelli Branca Distillery in Milan according to a secret family recipe. This legendary herbal liqueur is based on a unique blend of 27 herbs, plants and spices, including gentian, saffron, myrrh, camomile, elderflower and many other fine ingredients. This complex herbal blend gives Fernet-Branca its powerful, natural yet spicy flavour, making it an unmistakable classic.
Fernet-Branca is aged for over a year in handcrafted oak barrels, which are stored in the ancient vaulted cellars of the historic Fratelli Branca Distillery in Milan. This ageing process gives the bitter its depth and complexity, making it a full-bodied yet harmonious drink that is an excellent choice both neat and in cocktails.
A herb-infused bitter whose unique recipe and long ageing in oak barrels transport both connoisseurs and newcomers alike into the world of aromatic herbal liqueurs. Life is bitter – Fernet-Branca.
Tasting Note
Colour: Dark amber with golden highlights.
Nose: Intense herbal notes of gentian and myrrh, accompanied by warm spices such as saffron and cinnamon, as well as a hint of chamomile and elderflower.
Palate: Full-bodied and spicy, with complex herbal flavours that come together in a harmonious bitterness. The oak ageing also brings out a subtle woody and spicy nuance that perfectly rounds off the flavour.
Finish: Long and warm, with a lingering herbal spiciness that lingers slowly and deeply in the mouth.
Fernet-Branca is ideal for enjoying neat or on the rocks to experience its herbal depth and spicy complexity. This bitter also demonstrates its versatility in classic cocktails such as Fernet and Coke or a Negroni, harmonising perfectly with citrus fruits, vermouth and soda. It pairs superbly with strong cheeses such as Pecorino or Gorgonzola and is ideal as a digestif after a hearty meal.
