Since 1999, the Slyrs Distillery has been producing the first and only Upper Bavarian single malt whisky, distilled using the traditional ‘Rau’ and ‘Fein’ methods. The name ‘Slyrs’ is a pseudo-Gaelic variation of ‘Schliersee’, the distillery’s home town, and reflects the regional ties and traditional craftsmanship that are expressed in every drop of this whisky.

Managing Director Anton Setter and Master Distiller Hans Kemenater transported 50 carefully selected casks to the 1,501-metre summit of the Stümpfling using a ski lift. The casks are stored there for five years, during which time the pure mountain air and the extreme temperature fluctuations of up to 60 degrees have a significant influence on the whisky’s flavour. Once the casks have been exposed to this extreme environment, they are brought back down to complete the maturation process.

The Slyrs Mountain Edition Jägerkamp, which matures for five years in oak casks, is finally bottled at cask strength of 50.4 per cent. Limited to just 1,746 bottles worldwide, this release embodies the unique essence of Alpine maturation in an exceptional whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Subtly smoky, woody notes, ripe mountain apples.

Palate: Full-bodied, peppery notes, wood smoke, vanilla flavours.

Finish: Long-lasting, spicy, slightly mineral, smoky notes.
