The Slyrs Single Malt Whisky MOUNTAIN EDITION Jägerkamp 2023 50.4% is a limited-edition special release from Bavaria, which owes its distinctive character to an exceptional high-altitude maturation process. Since 2014, Slyrs has been ageing selected whisky casks at an altitude of 1,501 metres on the Stümpfling in the Bavarian Alps. There, the whisky matures for five years under a distinct Alpine microclimate, characterised by significant temperature fluctuations between summer and winter, which can reach differences of up to 60 °C. These changing conditions influence the interaction between the distillate and the cask, lending Slyrs Mountain Whisky its powerful structure and distinctive spiciness. The crisp mountain air and the unusual storage location make the Mountain Edition a unique addition to the Slyrs range.

The Jägerkamp Edition 2023 is named after the 1,746-metre-high Jägerkamp, at the foot of which the Bannwand spring rises. The Alpine spring water sourced there forms an important foundation for the whiskies produced by the Slyrs distillery. In keeping with the mountain’s height, this special edition has been limited to just 1,746 bottles, with each bottle symbolising one metre of altitude. With a robust 50.4 per cent alcohol content, this bottling stands out clearly from the regular Mountain Edition and is aimed at connoisseurs of intense German single malts. Another distinctive feature is the intricately crafted natural stone label, which visually evokes the Alpine character. The 0.7-litre bottle, presented in a gift box, thus combines high-altitude maturation, limited production and Bavarian whisky craftsmanship to create a collectable special edition.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep gold to amber.

Nose: Expressive, with malt, subtle oak and spicy notes, accompanied by a crisp, fresh character.

Palate: Powerful and intense with pronounced malty sweetness, spicy cask influence and a distinctive, dry structure.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming with malt, oak and a distinctly lingering spiciness.

The Slyrs Mountain Edition Jägerkamp 2023 is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can help to open up the robust 50.4% ABV. It pairs well with mature mountain cheeses, smoked meats, bacon or hearty game dishes, which complement its Alpine and spicy character. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts or caramel-based desserts also harmonise well with the malt and cask notes. For a tasting, the Jägerkamp Edition is particularly well suited to a direct comparison with the regular Mountain Edition.
