Ardbeg Heavy Vapours is an exceptional limited-edition release from the renowned Islay distillery, Ardbeg. With an alcohol content of 46 % vol., this single malt reveals a new, daring side to the distillery. What makes this edition special is the absence of the traditional purifier in the distillation process – a step that normally mellows the heavier flavours in the distillate. Without this purifier, particularly robust, dense and intense flavours emerge, making this whisky even smokier and spicier than usual.

Ardbeg embodies centuries-old tradition: whisky had already been distilled here unofficially since 1794, before John McDougall officially founded the distillery in 1815. The name ‘Ardbeg’ comes from Gaelic and means ‘little hill’ – fitting for its location on the south coast of the legendary whisky region of Islay, which is renowned for its heavily peated and maritime-influenced whiskies.

With the Heavy Vapours, Ardbeg is launching an even more intense interpretation of its signature style. The deliberately modified distillation process results in a particularly powerful character that emphasises the darker, heavier flavours. A whisky for true Ardbeg fans and lovers of heavily peated Islay whiskies.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Thick clouds of smoke, earthy notes and spicy herbs, accompanied by dark chocolate and roasted coffee.

Palate: Intense and full-bodied with strong peaty smoke, black pepper, liquorice and a delicate sweetness of vanilla and caramel.

Finish: Long and spicy with lingering smoke, maritime notes and a subtle bitterness.

Ardbeg Heavy Vapours reveals its full flavour when enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water. It pairs superbly with grilled meat, BBQ ribs, tangy hard cheese or dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
