The Lochlea CASK STRENGTH Single Malt Whisky Batch 1 60.1% vol. 0.7 l + GB is the first release in the cask-strength range from the independent Lochlea Distillery in the Scottish Lowlands. The distillery, situated on Robert Burns’ former farm, is still young but already renowned for its distinct character: natural production methods, complete transparency and a distinctive Lowland style. With this bottling, Lochlea presents a whisky that is bottled straight from the cask in its unadulterated form – powerful, complex and completely free from chill filtration or colouring.


Batch 1 was bottled at an impressive 60.1% ABV and matured in a carefully selected combination of first-fill bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry casks. This results in a multi-faceted character that combines fruity freshness with deep spiciness. Presented in a stylish gift box (UK), it is not only of interest to collectors but also a genuine treat for connoisseurs who appreciate the unadulterated power of a cask-strength whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold with warm coppery highlights.

Nose: Fresh red apples, vanilla and honey, accompanied by spicy sherry notes and subtle toasted aromas.

Palate: Intense and oily, with malt, sweet caramel, dark fruits, oak and a subtle spiciness.

Finish: Lang, robust and warming, with fruity and woody notes.

The Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 reveals its full complexity best when enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up its aromas. It pairs excellently with strong cheeses, dark chocolate or smoked meats. It also comes into its own when enjoyed with a cigar.
