The Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt whisky distillery, situated on the historic Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow, in the Scottish Lowlands. Following the conversion of the former farm into a distillery and bonded warehouse, it began operations in August 2018. John Campbell, the former manager of the Laphroaig Distillery, took over as managing director. The farm, where the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, provides not only a historical backdrop but also the barley for whisky production. In addition, the water required for production is sourced from local limestone springs, enabling full traceability of the production process.

The distillery produces seasonal releases, with particular emphasis on the ‘Laureate’ barley sown in spring, which is used for the whisky. The single malt whisky produced in this way is matured in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring agents.

Tasting Note

Colour: Brilliant amber.

Nose: Full-bodied, with notes of red apples and pears.

Palate: Fruity, lush, with notes of vanilla pods and almond oil.

Finish: Long-lasting, with hints of pine forest.

Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
