Duval Pastis de Marseille is a classic French pastis with an alcohol content of 45 per cent, available in a 0.7-litre bottle. This traditional spirit speciality epitomises the characteristic style of southern France and is closely linked to the aperitif culture of Provence and Marseille. Pastis is typically characterised by its pronounced notes of aniseed and liquorice, which in Duval are complemented by various herbs and spices. Tasting Note

Colour: Golden yellow to amber; when water is added, it takes on a characteristic milky, cloudy appearance.

Nose: Intense and spicy with notes of aniseed and liquorice, accompanied by cinnamon, thyme and hints of Mediterranean herbs.

Palate: Aromatic and full-bodied with aniseed, liquorice, cinnamon and nutmeg, complemented by pepper and subtly tart herbal notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and spicy, with dominant notes of aniseed and liquorice, as well as lingering herbal and spicy notes.

Duval Pastis de Marseille is traditionally served as an aperitif with cold water, which brings out the characteristic ‘louche’ effect and the herbal aromas. It pairs well with Mediterranean nibbles such as olives, tapenade, roasted almonds, seafood or Provençal starters. Alternatively, pastis makes a good base for cocktails such as Pastis Rouge or other French-inspired aperitif drinks. On warm days in particular, the classic method of serving it diluted with water makes for a straightforward French aperitif.
