Bobby's Schiedam PINANG RACI SPICE Dry Gin 42% is a distinctive Dutch dry gin that combines Schiedam’s time-honoured distilling tradition with Indonesian spices. It is named after and inspired by Jacobus “Bobby” Alfons, who hailed from Naku on the Indonesian island of Ambon and refined his jenever in the Netherlands using spices from his homeland. He called this personal blend of spices ‘Pinang Raci’, which roughly translates as a mixture of various spices. His grandsons, Sebastiaan and David, revived this family tradition in collaboration with their long-standing distilling partner, Herman Jansen. Seven generations of distilling experience, combined with a modern approach, ultimately formed the basis for Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin and the further developed Pinang Raci range.

For Bobby’s Pinang Raci Spice Blend No. 1, more than 70 different spice combinations were tested before the final recipe was settled upon. At the heart of the blend are bay leaves, turmeric and galangal, complemented by ginger, sweet orange, cloves, cinnamon, lemongrass, cubeb pepper, coriander and juniper. This creates an aromatic gin with a distinctively spicy character and notes that are both warm and fresh. The recipe offers a contemporary take on the flavours of the Indonesian Spice Islands, combining them with the Dutch distilling tradition of Schiedam. With an alcohol content of 42 per cent and a bottle size of 0.7 litres, this dry gin from the Netherlands is robust enough for cocktails without the subtle spice nuances being overshadowed.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Intense and aromatic with juniper, ginger and sweet orange, accompanied by galangal, turmeric, lemongrass and warm spices.

Palate: Spicy and complex with Daun Salam, galangal and ginger, complemented by cloves, cinnamon, cubeb pepper, coriander and fresh citrus notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming with spices, juniper, citrus and a subtle peppery note.

Bobby's Schiedam PINANG RACI SPICE Dry Gin is particularly well suited to a gin and tonic made with dry tonic water and garnished with orange zest or lemongrass. Thanks to its intense spicy profile, it works just as well in a Negroni, gin sour or a spicy highball. It pairs particularly well with Indonesian or South-East Asian spiced dishes, satay, grilled meat and aromatic curries. With its warm spicy notes, this gin is also a perfect accompaniment to mature cheeses and savoury snacks.
