The Planteray Rum FIJI 2019 Coffee Liqueur Cask Finish is an exceptional single cask release from Fiji, part of the Planteray Single Casks Premium 2024 Collection. The rum was produced by the Rum Co. of Fiji using molasses, which was first fermented for four to five days and then distilled in a column still. The distillate is from the 2019 vintage and subsequently underwent a multi-stage maturation process. It was first aged for four years in bourbon casks under tropical conditions in the Fiji Islands. This was followed by the continental secondary maturation characteristic of Planteray in France, where the rum spent a further five months in Ferrand casks.


The Planteray Fiji 2019 Single Cask derives its distinctive character from a final seven-month finish in a coffee liqueur cask. This unusual choice of cask complements the matured Fiji rum with pronounced coffee, cocoa and roasted aromas, as well as additional sweet and spicy notes. The producer states an ester content of 68 g/hl AA and a total of 214 g/hl AA of volatile compounds. This special edition is bottled at 45.4% in a 0.7 l bottle, complete with a gift box. The combination of the 2019 vintage, tropical bourbon cask maturation, Ferrand casks and a coffee liqueur cask finish makes this limited-edition Planteray bottling particularly appealing to enthusiasts of experimental cask maturations and characterful Fijian rums.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Intense and complex, with notes of coffee, caramel, vanilla and hazelnut, complemented by pear, lemongrass, floral nuances, apple and gooseberry, as well as nutmeg and a subtle hint of smoke.

Palate: Harmonious and full-bodied with vanilla fudge, honey, ginger and mocha, followed by plum, coconut and almond, as well as cinnamon and herbal and earthy notes.

Finish: Long-lasting and delicately bittersweet with chocolate and dried banana, accompanied by notes of bourbon, nutmeg and a creamy hint of coconut milk.

The Planteray Rum FIJI 2019 Coffee Liqueur Cask Finish is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, allowing the combination of tropical maturation and coffee liqueur finish to unfold fully. A few drops of still water can bring out additional fruity and roasted flavours.
