The Baron Philippe de Rothschild estate, based in Pauillac, is one of France’s most renowned wine houses and is known worldwide for its first-class Bordeaux wines. The estate revolutionised winemaking by introducing on-site bottling and, in 1973, securing Château Mouton Rothschild’s promotion to the highest tier of the Bordeaux classification. The portfolio also includes the internationally renowned Mouton Cadet brand, as well as the estates Château Clerc Milon and Château d’Armailhac.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Escudo Rojo Gran Reserva is an outstanding red wine from the Valle Central, south of Santiago de Chile. This renowned wine-growing region benefits from ideal climatic conditions that favour the growth of top-class grape varieties. The vineyards are situated at altitudes of between 800 and 1,200 metres, nestled in small valleys between the Pacific Ocean and the imposing Andes mountain range.

The blend for the Escudo Rojo Gran Reserva 2021 consists of 40 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, which lends the wine structure and depth, 38 per cent Carménère, which provides a spicy, fruit-driven character; 20 per cent Syrah, which imparts body and dark fruit aromas; and 2 per cent Cabernet Franc, which adds delicate floral nuances. Following the harvest and careful vinification, the wine is aged for 12 months in one-year-old French oak barrels, giving it its elegant balance of fruit, spice and soft tannins. The wine has an ageing potential until 2028 and is sealed with a natural cork to ensure its quality and longevity.

Tasting Note

A deep ruby red with purple highlights. On the nose, intense aromas of blackcurrants, ripe blackberries and plums, accompanied by subtle notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and roasted coffee. Complex on the palate, with spicy notes of black pepper and liquorice, supple tannins and pleasant acidity. A long-lasting and elegant finish.

An ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as grilled beef fillet, braised leg of lamb or spicy game dishes. Mature cheeses such as Manchego or Parmigiano Reggiano also pair wonderfully with its intense aromas.
