The upheavals at the start of the 20th century, and in particular the First World War, which destroyed half of the Domaine Louis Roederer, prompted Léon Olry Roederer to rebuild his vineyard.

He decided to purchase grapes to ensure the house’s survival during these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine blended from several vintages, offering a consistent flavour regardless of the harvest year.

Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 244, a tribute to flavour and enjoyment, consists of 54 per cent grapes from the 2019 vintage. Each year, the cellar master crafts a new symphony, inspired by the distinctive characteristics of the year, complemented by wines from the Réserve Perpétuelle and reserve wines aged in oak barrels.

The Réserve Perpétuelle contributes 36% to the Collection and is synonymous with balance and freshness. In addition, 10 per cent comes from wines of previous vintages and young Cristal vineyards, which are aged in French oak. Collection 244 matures for around four years in the cellars and develops an impressive depth.

Meunier grapes lend it a soft fruitiness that perfectly complements the more structured Pinots Noirs and Chardonnays. Collection 244 is an exceptional champagne that perfectly reflects the cellar master’s artistry and the diversity of the grapes.

Tasting Note

A pale golden yellow with brilliant highlights and a fine effervescence in the glass. A bouquet of citrus fruits, acacia blossoms, toasted hazelnuts and white-fleshed fruits. On the palate, delicate toasty aromas with fruity and sweet notes of white-fleshed fruits. A long-lasting finish.
