The Tamdhu DISTINCTION II Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 48% vol. 0.7 l + GB is a standalone limited edition within the Quercus Alba Distinction series, which is deliberately distinguished from its predecessor by a deeper, darker and creamier flavour profile. Here, too, the focus is on maturation in first-fill American oak Oloroso sherry casks; however, for the Distinction II bottling, the casks were selected to bring out richer, more chocolatey and more intensely spicy notes. The Tamdhu Distillery thus continues its philosophy of bringing out different facets within a clearly defined cask concept.


As with Distinction I, the wood’s journey begins in the oak forests of North America, before the casks are prepared, air-dried and pre-seasoned with Oloroso sherry over a period of years in Spain’s Sherry Triangle. In the Distinction II version, however, there is a clearly discernible focus on deep sherry aromas, dark fruit and a pronounced creaminess, setting this edition apart from the first release. Bottled at 48 per cent, without chill filtration and in its natural colour, this Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is particularly full-bodied and well-structured. The high-quality gift box emphasises its limited-edition and collectable nature.

Tasting Note

Colour: Natural amber with more intense, darker highlights.

Nose: Malt, vanilla, spicy oak, orange, mint, distinctly deeper sherry notes.

Palate: Creamy and full-bodied, plums, dark chocolate, ripe fruit, intense oak.

Finish: Very long-lasting, pronounced sherry oak, figs, golden syrup, spicy and deep.

The Tamdhu Distinction II Speyside Single Malt is excellent enjoyed neat, ideally at room temperature or with a few drops of water to allow its complex and creamy texture to unfold fully. Thanks to its bolder, darker character, this sherry cask-matured single malt whisky pairs particularly well with desserts featuring dark chocolate, chocolate tart, fig-based desserts, dates or caramel pastries. It also pairs superbly with mature cheeses, a variety of nuts or richer desserts, where its depth and spiciness are brought to the fore.
