The idea for Reingin was conceived by Tim Lamm and Johannes Weigl in front of the Schlossturm in Düsseldorf, which is why the gin bottles bear the coordinates of this location. The two founders, who had the vision of creating a pure gin inspired by the Rhine, thus also contributed to the choice of name. This German gin was launched in 2017 by the Düsseldorf-based company WeiLa and is produced by the long-established Bovenkerck distillery in Hamminkeln, in the district of Wesel, which has been renowned for its high-quality spirits since 1750.

In honour of the city of Vienna, a special edition of r[h]eingin was designed in collaboration with the artist Jacques Tilly. The edition features illustrations of notable Viennese landmarks, including the Vienna State Opera, the Prater, Belvedere Palace, St Stephen’s Cathedral, the Wiener Hofburg, the Danube Tower and City Hall. Each bottle is labelled by hand and given a unique number.

Unlike many other gins, which consist of a wide variety of botanicals, this handcrafted dry gin is produced exclusively from various varieties of juniper berries and a malt-rich spirit that has been filtered several times.
