The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, continues to preserve many traditional methods in its production process to this day. For example, the barley is still grown on site, and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. Furthermore, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers, who are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the entire maturation process.

The Balvenie 14 Year Old American Bourbon Cask is one of two releases in the new ‘A Curious Cask Collection’ range, which emerged from the close collaboration between Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie and Samples Coordinator George Paterson. This series follows on from the successful ‘Revelation of Cask and Character’ and sets new standards in the world of whisky. During production, unpeated malt was milled, mashed, fermented and distilled; the spirit took on subtle smoky notes as distillation had taken place shortly beforehand for the “Week of Peat” series.

The special maturation in American bourbon barrels creates a harmonious interplay, further enriched by subtle smoky accents. The result is a whisky that stands out distinctly from other bottlings and delights both connoisseurs and newcomers alike with its unmistakable taste experience.

Tasting Note

Colour: Amber.

Nose: Rich, sweet, creamy, toffee, hints of fruit, honey.

Palate: Candied orange peel, toasted malt, vanilla, oaky notes.

Finish: Long-lasting.
