Since 1601, non-guild craftsmen in parts of Altona have enjoyed special religious and trade freedoms. This area, known as the ‘Freiheit’, gave rise as early as the 17th century to the legendary streets ‘Große Freiheit’ and ‘Kleine Freiheit’ in Hamburg’s St Pauli district. Drawing on this historical tradition, a special tribute to the city of Hamburg was created in the form of a unique gin.

In addition to Tuscan juniper, caraway, aniseed, fennel, dill and lemons were macerated during production to give the gin a distinctive and unmistakable character. As part of an elaborate filtration process, five special varieties of pepper were also extracted and then gently distilled. As the crowning touch, the gin was matured for a ‘sinful’ night in old aquavit oak casks before being bottled in the distinctive Gin Sul bottle, which is reminiscent of traditional apothecary bottles.

Limited to 4,000 bottles worldwide.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Typical notes of juniper, aniseed and dill.

Palate: Fruity, with notes of ripe lemons, juniper, caraway, aniseed, fennel and dill.

Finish: Long-lasting.
