The Weingut Kerschbaum is one of Austria’s leading wineries. It is situated in Horitschon, in the Blaufränkisch region of Burgenland. The term ‘Blaufränkischland’ refers to a wine-growing region in Central Burgenland where the Blaufränkisch grape variety is primarily cultivated. Paul Kerschbaum’s aim is to produce full-bodied, long-lasting wines with a hint of oak. In 2011, Paul Kerschbaum handed over responsibility for wine production to his son Michael.

The grapes for the Blaufränkisch Ried Dürrau come exclusively from the renowned single vineyard Dürrau in Horitschon, one of the region’s finest sites. The 21-day temperature-controlled maceration gives the wine its dense structure and intense depth. Malolactic fermentation took place exclusively in wooden barrels, followed by 15 months’ ageing. Once matured, the Blaufränkisch is bottled and sealed with a natural cork.

Tasting Note

A deep ruby-garnet colour with violet highlights in the glass. On the nose, fruity notes of black cherries and dark wild berries, accompanied by hints of precious wood. On the palate, it is juicy, extra-sweet and elegant, with a delicate fruit acidity, ripe tannins and a salty minerality. Long-lasting on the finish.

Serving temperature: 16 °C

Pairs excellently with hearty beef dishes and mature cheeses. Decanting for 2 hours before serving is recommended.
